  2006 AGN FIXTURES
(AGN webtuiste is nog "under construction"
maar die wedlope is al beskikbaar).

All ACR members receive a copy of the Athletics Gauteng North handbook for the coming year, together with their licence numbers when registering.

The handbook contains the date, event name, venue, starting time(s), organiser's name(s) and telephone numbers of the Road Running fixtures (including the League races.)

While this can help to plan local races to run in the year ahead, changes do occasionally occur, so it is a good idea to consult Race updates (or even contact the race organiser at the 'phone no. in the handbook, if in doubt about possibly revised dates and/or starting times and/or venues - or even how to get to the venue if you have never been there before.)

Such changes are also normally announced before the weekly time Trials at 18h00 (Summer) or 17h30 (Winter) on Tuesdays, (making yet another reason to try to make the effort to attend Time Trials, if at all possible. At Time Trials, fellow members who have run the upcoming races before can also explain how to get there to members who are not certain of the location of venues.)

LEAGUE RACES

Although ACR has won the annual Road Running League Championship in the past, the club has not fared as well in recent years. The league works on a handicap basis with points awarded according to the size of the club membership, to give small clubs a chance to compete with the bigger clubs. Although elite athletes gain extra points for finishing under specific times for specific distances, EVERY member can make a difference, since points are also awarded just for completing league races within the cut-off times.

The points for league races are available HERE & Super League results HERE:

So, while you are planning your races, please make an effort to include as many of the league races LISTED HERE as you can & perhaps we can win the League again, with YOUR participation?

Feel free to join other members at the Club Umbrella(s)/Gazebo after the race.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 42,2 Km and 21,1 Km Club Championships take place at local races, which are indicated below until they have occured (as well as in the Newsletter and at Time Trials).

Age group Category winners receive a Gold trophy, those who come second receive a Silver trophy and those who come third receive a bronze trophy. The overall Ladies and Mens winners are the club champions for the distance for the year.

It is vitally important to note that CLUB COLOURS MUST BE WORN in these races, as well as AGE CATEGORY BADGES.

As with all ASA races these days, the rule is that winners only qualify for prizes in their age group ALONE. (i.e. A fast Veteran can no longer qualify to win both the Veteran and Senior awards, even if ahead of the first Senior finisher, but can ONLY win the Veteran award.)

The 8 Km Club Championships take place at a specific Time Trial run from the clubhouse, which will be indicated here (as well as in the Newsletter and at Time Trials) and at the Time Trials webpage.

AWAY WEEKENDS

Alpha Centurion plans annually for a weekend or two "away". Information regarding which non-AGN races have been chosen will be indicated here (as well as in the Newsletter and at Time Trials) and at the Social Activities webpage, as soon as the specific "away race" has been finalised.

"Away races" which have been supported in the past include "The Three Provinces" (between Jan Kempdorp and Christiana), "The Cherry Festival" (at Ficksburg), Voet van Afrika, as well as the Karoo Marathon.

Club members have produced superb achievements at these races (inluding Senior and Veteran team prizes at the Karoo and Grand Masters and Ladies winners at The Three Provinces, to name a few).

HOSTING RACES

Alpha Centurion hosts the third-largest road race in South Africa (after Comrades and Two Oceans), namely the WALLY HAYWARD MARATHON.

This race is held on Worker's Day, on the 1st of May annually and is supported by athletes from all over South Africa, (and even outside SA) who come to honour the legendary Wally Hayward.

Since his year 1st May is on a Sunday, the Worker's Day Holiday - and the Wally - is on 2nd May 2005.

NO CLUB MEMBER MAY TAKE PART IN THE WALLY HAYWARD MARATHON because we REALLY need everyone's help on the day.

So, ACR Members, PLEASE DIARISE 2nd MAY 2005 NOW. Your club REALLY needs your help.

A SPECIAL "WALLY" FOR CLUB MEMBERS IS ARRANGED just before or just after race day, over the same course. The date and starting time will be indicated here (as well as in the Newsletter and at Time Trials) and at the About the WALLY webpage, as soon as they have been finalised.

So, PLEASE WATCH THIS SPACE.

In addition, our Club helps annually with the entries and first water table at the Pretoria News Classic race in October. Club members' help for a couple of hours on the morning of the race at the Tukkies High Performance Sports Centre, will be greatly appreciated.
